Drupal for gaming community? | drupal.org
We're currently in the start of creating a gaming community. We've been a guild/clan in a game and we wish to expand to other games which is the reason why we're making a community. We choose to use Drupal as it seems like a great and flexible CMS system which is what we need :).
We have many needs and I'd like some feedback on this. Since I don't know the system very well yet, and I'd like to know whats posible to do and how :). I will greatly apriciate it those taking the time answering and giving feedback.
The though is that we'll have a main community site, and one site for each of the games determind by the subdomain. Example: www.communityname.com -> Main site, swtor.communityname.com -> site to guild for Star Wars The Old Republic, aoc.communityname.com -> site to guild Age of Conan, and so on.
The main site will contain a navigation menu different more community related sites. Also there will be a own menu under the navigation menu with links to the different guild/clan sites that's under the community. The navigation menu will also have a link to forum. We wish to use integrated forum in Drupal, and it will list community specific forums, and all the different gaming guild/clan forums.
The "guild/clan" site will have a different navigation menu then then main site. There will be more sites specific to that gaming guild/clan but there will also be a few shared sites like for example "About us" which explains about the gaming community. There will also be a link to forum which will show the community spesific forums and only the forums for that gaming guild/clan which he've choosed.
Each user will have to go through a application process where they apply to join one of the gaming guilds/clans. I'm not sure how the best way to handle this would be. We want a quite open application process where those already members can comment on the application so those handeling the application can read the feedback. If posible, I think the best way would be to make a application form and once submitet will it be made as a new post in a application forum related to that gaming guild/clan, so users of that gaming guild/clan can comment on it.
Once a user has been accepted must he be put in a premission group for that gaming guild/clan, so he can access links, sites and forums not aviable for the public but only members of the premission group. A example would be "SW The Old Republic member" and then he'd only have access to public forums and sites, and those sites and forums requiring that you are a "SW The Old Republic member".
We need to make blocks which contains javascript. Like TeamSpeak server status (A voip program), and a shout box.
As we will mainly be a supporting Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games do we need a event system where people may choose to join the event. The user should be able to add notes, to say for example to what kind of role in the event he want. The list needs to be sorted after when they choose to join the event, so those being first will get the spot. Perferably should it require user privileges to be able to join, and a max limit. We would also want a DKP (Dragon Kill Points) system. It's basicly a point system where user gets points for participating in guild/clan events, it has to be for each gaming guild/clan he's apart of. (There are 3rd party applications for this like eqdkp plus we could use, but we rather want it all integrated in Drupal if posible)
There are probably other things I havn't though of. If you know any other "nice to have" modules you think we would like then I'd apriciate it very much any suggestions! I'm asking if it is posible and how to solve the challanges I posted above. Like how do we get a own "navigation bar" and "default site" based on what subdomain we write.
