2013 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG Breaks Cover

Just the Facts:

• The new Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG will begin arriving at U.S. dealers in the first quarter of 2013.

• The GL63 AMG joins its high-performance siblings, the ML63 AMG and the G63 AMG, in the U.S. market.

MONTVALE, New Jersey ? Joining its siblings, the ML63 AMG and the G63 AMG, in the American market, the new Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG will begin arriving at U.S. dealers in the first quarter of 2013.

The AMG-tuned variant of the redesigned 2013 GL-Class will follow its stablemates to market by about six months, the company said. The 2013 GL350 Bluetec, GL450 and GL550 reach U.S. dealerships this September.

The new GL63 AMG sports a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 delivering 550 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes-Benz says 0-60 acceleration takes 4.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Power is delivered to all four wheels via an AMG Speedshift seven-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic, the automaker's permanent all-wheel-drive system.

Standard on the GL63 AMG are AMG Ride Control sport suspension with Airmatic package and adaptive damping, as well as Active Curve System with active front and rear stabilizer bars, AMG speed-sensitive sport steering and AMG high-performance brakes.

The GL63 AMG is distinguished visually from its counterparts with such styling cues as 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, red brake calipers, a new front valance with large air intakes, LED daytime running lights, flared fenders, a new rear valance with a black diffuser, stainless-steel running boards and an AMG sport exhaust system.

The seven-seat cockpit features premium leather upholstery, a flat-bottom AMG sport steering wheel with perforated leather grips and aluminum shift paddles, a four-dial AMG instrument cluster and AMG stainless-steel pedals.
